As part of the humanities curriculum students and staff at Overton School took a small scale field trip to Ludlow Castle to explore a real–life castle! Imagine yourself in the position of being a young person who has only ever seen castles on television or heard about them in school; of course we were impressed.
The first thing which impressed us about Ludlow Castle was the friendly welcome which we received from the staff there, closely followed by the scale of it. The size of the castle meant that we had a very active morning exploring the extensive grounds, but we also took advantage of the vertical aspect and climbed every set of stairs in the place. This provided plenty of opportunity to carry out activities like measuring towers with a tape measure, counting steps and working out what the purpose of a portcullis might be!
We’re looking forward to delving into history and exploring more of our fascinating local attractions soon!
