Overton school is an Options Autism School, a part of the Outcomes First Group, striving to build incredible futures for the young people that we care for.
We specialise in providing education for autistic individuals, young people with learning disabilities (LD) and co-occurring needs including ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety disorders, emotional difficulties and attachment disorders.
Overton School is located on the periphery of the market town of Ludlow in Shropshire providing it with excellent accessibility to the county’s motorway and road network, rail and public transport routes, whilst being pleasantly distanced from the hustle and bustle of the major towns. It is very close to Ludlow (five minutes away by car), Telford town (fifty minutes away by car), and Shrewsbury town (forty minutes away by car). All three towns are relatively large and have major facilities such as shops, supermarkets, leisure centres, cinemas, restaurants and local sporting and youth clubs which young people can attend.
We are situated in a stunning location to accommodate vulnerable young people with complex needs and behaviours that challenge. There are extensive gardens and a Forest School area within the school grounds. The young people who attend Overton are provided with regular access to nature, and afforded with supported and independent community access, allowing them to gain confidence, independence, achieve personal successes and to express themselves creatively.
Without the correct support, autistic individuals and young people with Learning Disabilities can find education extremely challenging and can become disengaged with education completely. In addition to this, autistic individuals have often had their education disrupted for significant periods of time and so are therefore understandably anxious about the prospect of re-entering formal education.
Young people are placed at Overton School for a variety of reasons, which may have, over time impacted their confidence and self-belief and at times leaving them feeling disempowered in the ability to plan their own future. These experiences and feelings can manifest themselves in behaviours that are challenging, presenting a considerable barrier to accessing learning and engaging in an educational pathway.
Our extensive experience in supporting Autistic individuals enables us to break negative cycles, create the right environments and deliver the necessary support needed for a young person to achieve in all areas of their development and have successes in their future life.
At Overton School we offer our young people a caring, consistent environment with appropriate structure, enabling them to successfully re-engage in education, develop social skills and a sense of self-worth through regular achievements.
The staff at Overton School have a wide range of experience of working with all aspects of Autism, Learning Disabilities and other special educational needs. They deliver bespoke educational pathways incorporating accredited courses and providing supportive care packages.
Teachers effectively build relationships, exploring pupil’s interests, providing them with the environment to feel safe, develop their curiosity for the world around them and new opportunities to challenge themselves.
