Home News & Events Field trip to Aberystwyth Beach
Pupils from across school had the opportunity to take part in a trip to Aberystwyth beach to support their conceptual understanding of Science. All students enjoyed exploring different habitats of sea life and different rock formations.
When taking part in a sea-life safari students were able to find crabs and shells of different species such as sea-snails and limpets most predominantly. Students learned terms such as habitat and environment and have observed the different animals which live on the beach or in the sea. This lead on to discussions about why animals might need shells and how they are formed. As always with science this then led to further discussions including how sand is formed and the composition of it. Pupils demonstrated curiosity as they explored while having lots of fun!
The trip wouldn’t have been complete without the many cultural opportunities which the students found, from practising Welsh speaking, discussions about the importance of Welsh cultural identity (some students had never left England before) and an important part of the trip was simply enjoying an ice cream or chips on the beach.
It was as lovely a day as it sounds! A huge thank you to Martin for organising this fantastic trip!
