Home News & Events Wear it Green for Mental Health
Thursday 15th May, we participated in Wear it Green Day to raise awareness of Mental Health. Pupils took part in a school assembly where they demonstrated a good awareness of what mental health is and were able to identify strategies to promote positive mental health.
Pupils also took part in a visual demonstration to explain the feeling of being overwhelmed, Mirren explained how the jug on the floor represents challenges we can take on board and overcome; the water represents unexpected scenarios for example, forgetting our lunchbox, the classroom is loud, there is a new person in my classroom, my transport was late. Mirren then poured a bit of water into the small jug for each example pupils gave until the jug spilled over, pupils were then able to identify feelings of ‘overflowing’, ‘flipping my lid’, being ‘overwhelmed’ and identified this may look like being angry, shouting or being upset before working as a team to find solutions to prevent their bucket from overflowing with examples such as speaking to staff, finding a calm space or engaging in a preferred activity with a cold drink.
